Graduated in 2011
The last few years have been rough times for Lakewood. The numbers were down, and the losses were piling up. New head coach Dominic Salerno and his staff are looking to change the culture of the program and so far, the young Piners are buying into it. There's an attitude from the young guys on the roster that they want to be the ones that help turn the program around and the returning veterans are on board as they put a lot of work in during the off-season at the camps, clubs, and clinics.
The Piners strength should be in the stretch 120-138 as they have four starters returning at these weights in Alex Martinez, Eddie Carmona, Gary Carmona, and Solomon Cobbs. That foursome has put in the time during the off-season to be the heart of the lineup.
Newcomers Juan and Luis Rivera at 106 and 113 lack varsity experience, but have good athleticism and are very eager to prove themselves.
Senior Jose Hernandez is the most experienced wrestler from 145 up. The bulk of the program's numbers are around his weight, but many of those numbers are young and raw. Hernandez is a hard worker and is a guy the coaches hope the younger guys in the middle will look up to for guidance.
Unfortunately for Lakewood, the controversial new weight class arrangement has once again failed yet another small program as the Piners will not be able to fill the 220 & 285 pound weight classes at this time.
Wrestler To Watch - (Sr) Gary Carmona
Carmona is the team's returning wins leader (16-8) from a year ago, and is also their leader in the room. After a strong 2011 season, the senior should be able to break the 20+ win mark and could be the Piners' best bet for a Region bid in 2012.

The Piners strength should be in the stretch 120-138 as they have four starters returning at these weights in Alex Martinez, Eddie Carmona, Gary Carmona, and Solomon Cobbs. That foursome has put in the time during the off-season to be the heart of the lineup.
Newcomers Juan and Luis Rivera at 106 and 113 lack varsity experience, but have good athleticism and are very eager to prove themselves.
Senior Jose Hernandez is the most experienced wrestler from 145 up. The bulk of the program's numbers are around his weight, but many of those numbers are young and raw. Hernandez is a hard worker and is a guy the coaches hope the younger guys in the middle will look up to for guidance.
Unfortunately for Lakewood, the controversial new weight class arrangement has once again failed yet another small program as the Piners will not be able to fill the 220 & 285 pound weight classes at this time.
Wrestler To Watch - (Sr) Gary Carmona
Carmona is the team's returning wins leader (16-8) from a year ago, and is also their leader in the room. After a strong 2011 season, the senior should be able to break the 20+ win mark and could be the Piners' best bet for a Region bid in 2012.
